Overview:
The Middle East continues to occupy a pivotal position within contemporary international politics, shaped by shifting geopolitical alignments, regional rivalries, changing patterns of global power and the enduring strategic importance of energy. At the same time, the global transition towards more sustainable energy systems is creating new economic, political and security challenges for states across the region.
This webinar will examine the intersection between international politics, geopolitics and energy security in the Middle East, considering how regional and global developments are reshaping traditional understandings of energy dependence, strategic vulnerability and national resilience.
Particular attention will be given to Jordan and its evolving energy transition. As a country historically dependent on imported energy and situated within a complex geopolitical environment, Jordan provides an important case study of the relationship between energy security, economic development and national strategy.
The discussion will consider Jordan’s efforts to diversify its energy mix, expand renewable energy capacity and strengthen energy resilience, while situating these developments within the wider geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East. It will also explore how changing energy markets, regional cooperation and international partnerships may influence Jordan’s future energy strategy.
Bringing together perspectives from international relations, geopolitics and energy security, the webinar will provide an opportunity to consider both the challenges and opportunities facing Jordan and the wider Middle East as the global energy landscape continues to evolve.
