Northern Ireland: Has Someone Stepped On Our Dreams?
Trevor Reaney
In promoting peace and reconciliation in the run up to the Good Friday
Agreement in the late 1990’s, a Van Morrison song entitled “Days Like
This” was used in Government adverts. The song includes the line –
“When no one steps on my dreams there’ll be days like this.” After more
than two decades since the Good Friday Agreement, Trevor Reaney
reflects on whether Northern Ireland has progressed as far as was
dreamed in 1998. Trevor addresses the question from the perspective
of his experience in local and regional government in Northern Ireland,
including his time as Clerk and Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland
Assembly.
