LA BATAILLE DE FRANCE 1940
Le 10 mai 1940, les armées du Reich envahissent les Pays-Bas, la
Belgique et la France le 19 mai. Le déclenchement de cette dernière
oensive de cinq semaines, qui porte le nom de Bataille de France,
fait suite à une longue période d’inaction de huit mois, la « drôle de
guerre », sur le front occidental. Après une présentation générale de
cette oensive, deux points seront plus particulièrement traités pour
comprendre cette écrasante défaite:

Francine Saint-Ramond est une auteure
bien connue en histoire, et l’auteure de
« Les Désorientés ; expériences de
soldats français aux Dardanelles et en
Macédoine, 1915-1918 ». Le livre est
basé sur des témoignages de soldats qui
ont participé à la campagne d’Orient.

L’Europe a été le terrain de guerres violentes et d’invasions tout au long de la
majeure partie de son histoire. Depuis près de 80 ans, nous n’avons pas assisté à une
confrontation militaire entre les principaux États-nations européens. Bien au
contraire, nous bénécions d’un esprit de collaboration croissant et d’un
engagement commun à construire un vaste espace de paix, de liberté et de
développement commun sur la majeure partie du continent. La paix, cependant,
n’est pas acquise et un regard historique sur notre passé violent peut nous aider à
vraiment apprécier le cadeau exceptionnel d’une période de paix aussi prolongée.
Le Hume Institute of Post Graduate Studies, Lausanne en association avec la
Commission française d’Histoire militaire organise une série de conférences pour
passer en revue les épisodes marquants du dernier chapitre tragique de l’histoire
où la confrontation européenne a déclenché un conflit planétaire.
Fondée en 1883 et présente dans 136 pays, l’Alliance Française est la plus grande
ONG culturelle au monde. Elle a pour but la diffusion de la langue et de la culture
française à l’étranger. L’Alliance Française de Genève fait partie de ce réseau
international et œuvre pour le rayonnement de la culture francophone. Elle est
également un centre agréé d’examens de français DELF et DALF.

THE BATTLE OF FRANCE 1940
On May 10, 1940, the armies of the Reich were engaged in
the invasion of the Netherlands, Belgium and France on
May 19. The five-week offensive in France, known as the
Battle of France, follows an eight-month long period of
inaction, the “Phoney War”, on the western front. After a
general presentation of this oensive, two points will be
dealt with in particular to understand this crushing defeat:

French soldiers in the Dardanelles and

The Hume Institute of Post Graduate Studies, Lausanne in association with
the French Committee of Military History (Commission Française d’Histoire
Militaire) organise a series of conferences to review prominent episodes of
the last tragic chapter of history where European confrontation ignited a
planetary conict.
Founded in 1883 and present in 136 countries, Alliance Française is the
largest cultural NGO in the world. Its purpose is the dissemination of the
French language and culture abroad. The Alliance Française Genève is part of
