Le 10 mai 1940, les armées du Reich envahissent les Pays-Bas, la Belgique et la France le 19 mai. Le déclenchement de cette dernière offensive de cinq semaines, qui porte le nom de Bataille de France, fait suite à une longue période d’inaction de huit mois, la « drôle de guerre », sur le front occidental. Après une présentation générale de cette offensive, deux points seront plus particulièrement traités pour comprendre cette écrasante défaite:

• Les forces et les faiblesses de l’armée française
• Le rôle de la ligne Maginot et l’exemple du seul ouvrage conquis par les Allemands.

On May 10, 1940, the armies of the Reich were engaged in the invasion of the Netherlands, Belgium and France on May 19. The five-week offensive in France, known as the Battle of France, follows an eight-month long period of inaction, the “Phoney War”, on the western front. After a general presentation of this offensive, two points will be dealt with in particular to understand this crushing defeat:
